MONDAY 08 JUNE 2026 - TORONTO - Following our article last week on allegations of illegal ticket pricing, FIFA reportedly started selling tickets at up to 30% below face value through a resale marketplace run by Ticketmaster. Critics allege however that these are actually direct sales by FIFA to circumvent any obligation to refund earlier buyers at higher prices.

The case for FIFA is straightforward: like airline tickets or concert seats, prices reflect certainty and timing. Buy early, pay more; wait, and you take a risk. Fans who protested with their wallets are effectively exercising their right to do exactly that. But the allegation that these are not genuine resales changes the picture entirely. If FIFA is testing a new, lower price point while disguising it as a secondary market transaction, that is a different matter — legally and ethically.

So should FIFA refund those who paid more?
